5th Grade: Colonization of America

Our fifth graders are currently studying early American colonization. They will be learning about the reasons for colonization as well as the three areas of colonization and what makes them alike and different. They will learn about life in the colonies, as well as major products and professions from each of the areas (New England, Middle, and Southern Colonies.)

Missouri Standards addressed (GLEs):
SS 3a C 5: Outline the discovery, exploration, and early settlement of America.
SS 5 C 5: Identify human characteristics, such as people's education, language, diversity, economies, religions, settlement patterns, ethnic background and political system.
SS 5 H 5: Identify major patterns of population distibution, demographics and migrations in the United States

    • I found this site a little difficult to use to search for elementary appropriate websites. It is good for general use, but I don't think I'd use it without a lot of extra time to research the sites.
